Over the years, we have sailed with, chartered and taught a number of people, this is a sampling of their comments. We thank all of them for their support and confidence.
“Eric is an incredibly capable sailor and experienced captain, but what sets him apart from the rest of the crowd is his good nature and sense of humor. He is fun to sail with! On a trip from Bermuda to New York, I laughed harder and longer than I have on any other voyage. His sense of ease and grace gave me supreme confidence in him, the boat, the crew and the trip as a whole. Moreover, he taught me a great deal about ocean sailing and blue-water cruising, and I will sail with him again as often as possible. “ Jim Oppy - Captain STEGOSAURUS
“I was glad to hear that Eric was starting Sail-Works as a new project. His enthusiasm for sailing and other boat projects is infectious. Eric’s common sense approach and attention to detail is apparent when you see him on his own boat. Having sailed with him as a fellow crew member on other boats and as crew on his boat, it’s a pleasure getting out on the water with him just for a short cruise or a serious race.” Jack Orr - North Sails
“Captain Eric Treu took me and my wife Alice for a two-day overnight sail to Long Island this past summer. This getaway trip would have been terrific just for much-needed downtime from work and the daily family grind, but it was exceptional for the total experience. After a refreshing and comfortable sail to Port Jeff we dropped anchor in a picturesque bay, where we conveniently barbecued a gourmet meal right on board with the sunset as our backdrop. Sleeping accommodations were clean and spacious, as was his boat Nomade in all ways, and we had breakfast to a sunrise we rarely get to appreciate. Eric was extremely competent and thorough as a Captain, and we felt assured at all times; additionally, we were invited to participate in the sail as much and as often as we cared to. Eric was highly entertaining, which added even more flavor to the experience, though he instinctively knew when privacy was preferred. This was the kind of trip that you hear about from other people, and we were glad to finally experience it ourselves. It was a bargain, and there is no question that we will use Nomade again for a special occasion trip, day sail, or sunset supper cruise.” Ralph Cortigiano Branford CT Take 5 Audio and Video
"...the two of us, both beginner sailors, sailed from Bermuda to Long Island with Eric and an experienced first mate on a 41' boat. It was a fantastic experience. There were many challenging situations, including a couple of storms, but Eric was always completely calm and focused. He was always interested in the safety and comfort of his crew, and also in making sure every opportunity was a learning opportunity for us.” --Jack
"Captain Treu is a very detailed sailor who is very meticulous about the preparation of his vessels and who understands and appreciates the weather mother nature sometimes throws at us. He and his boat are always infinitely prepared whether going out for a weeknight sail or for a two week vacation. The devil is always in the details and Eric is usually a step ahead." Don O’Brien Skibereen
“Eric and I have sailed together for four years. With Eric, I have experienced tranquil starlit night sails, exhilarating beer can racing, weekend excursions to the Hamptons, and even a hurricane. He is a very capable captain with a level of experience that can only be acquired through years of experience on the water. Whether sailing for a few hours or for a few days, Eric’s knowledge of Long Island Sound will ensure that your experience is a pleasurable one. You will not find a sailing instructor with as much sail handling knowledge as Eric anywhere in Connecticut. The services offered by Sail-Works are a wonderful way for any beginner to test the waters of sailing in a safe setting and for a great price.”
