CS 30: What's Next

What’s Next?, a 30-foot cruiser/racer built by Canadian Sailcraft (CS) in 1986 was designed by Tony Castro http://www.tonycastro.co.uk , a well known English designer with an eye towards comfortable, performance oriented yachts. CS, in its Brampton Ontario factory had the reputation for building some of the finest production sailboats in North America. cs30sailshot5

What’s Next? has proven to be a very comfortable during coastal cruising for our small family, with ample storage for food, bedding and clothes. Although we have not done much extended cruising, she is very capable of heading out for a week or two without a problem.

She is very easy to sail with just two people and has been single-handed with the help of the autopilot. Handling the boat under power is also a breeze (no pun intended), there is no problem getting in and out of tight slips and crowded mooring fields.  She very quickly instilled confidence in her captain and the numerous crew (family and friends) that have sailed on her in the 6 years we have owned her. You will also find yourself reaching your destinations quickly.

What’s Next? has a powerful rig and a light, balanced helm that has allowed us to pass most other 30 footers and many boats even larger.  She sails very well in light air, which makes her perfect for Long Island Sound and other light wind areas, but is stiff enough to handle the heavy stuff even though you will find yourself shortening sail when the winds reach 15mph. If you have any interest in doing some club or beer can racing, What’s Next? has also proven to be a winner, being easy to sail to her PHRF rating.

We have taken pride in taking good care of What’s Next? both cosmetically and mechanically.  While we will be sad to see her go, it is time for the next move up. If you are looking for a sailboat in the 30-foot range have a look at What’s Next? and compare her to the many “High Volume” boats on the market.  We are sure she will serve you and your family as well as she has served us.
